Mission:
Prevention of injury and disease by controlling the links between humans and their environments.
Environmental health is a branch of public health and preventative
medicine. It is concerned with the prevention of
injury and disease by controlling the links between humans and their environment. Environmental
health programs seek to minimize or eliminate risk factors in the human
environment when threaten life and health. Because of their broad impact,
environmental health programs are predominately administered by
governmental agencies. In Florida, the Department of Health (DOH), in
partnership with local county health departments (CHD's), administers the
state's public health programs that include an extensive program of
environmental health. The basic implementation of each environmental
health program component includes public education, inspection,
investigations, and enforcement of public health laws.
