Environmental Health
Epidemiology Program

Involves monitoring and reporting diseases of environmental origin. This can range from the sampling of dead birds for West Nile Virus to the tracking of diseases related to food consumption. To report a dead bird, call this office or log on to the bird surveillance web site New window. The most current surveillance information may be found at the Department of Health’s Bureau of Epidemiology Web Site New window.

Foodborne illness investigations fall under this program component as well and are performed at all food service establishments regardless of regulatory jurisdiction. To learn more about foodborne illnesses, visit the Department of Health’s Online Food Hygiene Training Manual New window or the USDA/FDA’s Foodborne Illness Education Information Center New window.
